MS Brain Health: Promoting Lifelong Brain Health for all People with MS
Summary of work
MS Brain Health – a widely endorsed, global policy initiative from OxfordHealthPolicyForum – is realizing its vision to create a better future for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and their families.
Following the launch of our policy recommendations in 2015, we embarked on an initiative to drive the adoption of a therapeutic strategy to maximize the lifelong brain health of people with MS. We developed educational resources for healthcare professionals to encourage them to promote timely management.
We developed a digital quality improvement tool, based on MS Brain Health consensus standards derived from the policy recommendations. A pilot study of the tool showed that it can help MS centres achieve the recommended benchmarks and facilitate improvements to clinical services globally.
A recent survey and reports from local ‘champions’ demonstrate how MS Brain Health has changed the global MS landscape, including promoting clinical practice changes in 16 countries. Through local action, these champions of our management approach have affected local health policy, increasing the momentum of the global initiative. MS Brain Health has helped equip people with MS and their carers to live a better life with the disease.
MS Brain Health continues to be a catalyst for improvements in MS care globally.
