Transatlantic Exchanges in Immuno-Oncology: Making Breakthroughs in Clinical Oncology
Summary of work
Despite the foundational nature of translational research in the quest to find new ways to end cancer, there is a need to support centres of scientific excellence to unite in collaborative discussion sharing latest advances. Transatlantic Exchanges is an industry-leading collaboration between L’Institut Servier, Gustave Roussy (Villejuif, France), Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, USA) and Medscape Medical Affairs to establish a global community of innovators across oncology, committed to accelerating new frontiers of clinical research by exploring all facets of care to realise a world where cancer is a curable disease. In 2022, cross-stakeholder cocreation designed, developed and disseminated cutting-edge education and discussion on a global scale. The programme leveraged a multichannel engagement strategy, faculty-led sessions focused on latest research advances in oncology and a delegate engagement hub (leveraging Medscape LIVE) uniting live and on-demand content in a flexible experience respecting all time zones. An active community of 509 oncology innovators in 80 countries has been established, with >1000 individuals registering future interest. It is perceived as a credible and high value activity (100%) with 83% delegates/faculty fully committed long-term and several transatlantic research collaborations already initiated. The Transatlantic Exchanges have only just begun and will continue for years to come.
Judges’ comments
The judges were impressed by this entry’s well-constructed and carefully considered strategy, noting that the team identified a clear barrier to overcome, which it did so through a brave approach to innovation. The judges felt the entry was a great example of doing things differently, commenting that the bravery of this campaign was reflected in the ambitious task of holding difficult conversations around a complex topic. They were moved to see collaboration happen in a space where previously it would not have, in an area of high need. An excellent example of process and forward motion in healthcare.
