CORE: Hand-in-Hand in Heart Failure

by PCM Scientific, supported by an arm’s length educational grant from Novartis AG

Summary of work

Global trends of poor communication and collaboration between members of the heart failure (HF) multidisciplinary team are resulting in a lack of knowledge and suboptimal application of international guidance. The CORE programme was established to encourage an integrated approach and to meet and exceed the expected standards of care for patients with HF.

PCM Scientific is a provider of CME programmes that not only reach broad, global audiences but deliver meaningful, measurable and sustainable impact on professional behaviours and patient care. Through CORE, PCM Scientific has brought together a Steering Committee of nine international heart failure experts, 24 National Faculty members and 108 Country Facilitators to design and implement a cascading educational approach with tailored, flexible content across Austria, Australia, Canada, Spain, Sweden and the UK. The comprehensive curriculum of six modules, 26 interactive exercises and realistic case studies provided adaptable education to address national, regional and individual educational needs and practice gaps, for all specialities involved in the management of patients with HF. The programme will exceed its target number of 220 educational meetings and 1,760 participants upon completion, and already 74% of learners are committing to change their practice, with 83% stating that CORE will improve patient outcomes.

Judges’ comments

PCM Scientific’s CORE programme demonstrated good evidence of change in behaviours, with robust market research into their audience’s needs. They had a bold ambition and the model is set-up for global adoption.
