A Sporting Games Initiative to Boost Learner Engagement

by AstraZeneca
with support from Ashfield Excellence Academy

Summary of work

AstraZeneca, supported by Ashfield Excellence Academy, designed and launched a Sporting Games-themed initiative to engage and enthuse learners, in order to maximise participation in an MSL training program ahead of a major clinical data release. The initiative took a micro-learning approach, encompassing a variety of different learning modalities to appeal to different preferred learning styles, and used aspects of gamification to encourage friendly competition and teamwork. Metrics from the initiative demonstrated increased engagement with the learning assets, and feedback from the participants indicated that the training was both fun and effective in preparing them for reactive discussions with HCPs.

Judges’ comments

Ashfield Excellence Academy and AstraZeneca’s entry showed a creative approach to MSL training, using a sports analogy. A very clear need had been outlined to upskill the team with specific and measurable objectives. It fostered collaboration and built knowledge base for new clinical data.
