Next Gen Rare: Upskilling Msls to Improve Rare Disease Patient Outcomes

by Alexion with support from Uptake

Summary of work

Alexion chose Uptake to deliver an innovative regional MSL capability programme that sought to evolve the role of Field Medical, moving beyond ‘science and brands’ to partnership and practice change leadership.
This small yet highly creative and impactful programme focused on the critical capabilities required for next-generation Field Medical roles in rare diseases. It was intentionally developed with a self-nomination entry process, to invest time and resources into those who were most inspired to become future-ready.
By upskilling these driven individuals to coach their peers and colleagues, the programme created sustainable impact across the organisation, connected the MSL community, and, most importantly, equipped them with the skills they need to make a difference with rare disease patients and clinicians in the region.

Judges’ comments

“Alexion and Uptake have produced a well-formulated programme addressing an important topic for a pharmaceutical company, with Alexion showing that it is willing to adapt its training approach to best meet the objectives set. A worthy project to motivate, upskill and future-proof a key team of medical science liaisons.”
