by Boehringer Ingelheim International GmbH

Summary of work

The Angels Initiative is a non-promotional, global healthcare initiative by Boehringer Ingelheim International GmbH endorsed by the World Stroke Organisation WSO, the European Stroke Organisation ESO, the European patient organisation SAFE and many other national stroke organisations to assist in implementing their main goal, to improve the stroke care across the world.

The mission of the Angels Initiative is simple: to increase the number of patients treated in stroke ready hospitals and to optimise the quality of treatment in all existing stroke centres.

The principal aim of the ANGELS initiative is to develop a community of ’stroke ready’ hospitals, and to encourage and improve acute stroke networks between hospitals in order to share information, set up stroke units, and improve treatment procedures and outcomes.

The core of the Angels Initiative are more than 140 Angels consultants in more than 40 countries that support stroke teams to scale-up acute stroke treatment, to optimise patient pathways, to improve and measure quality of the care. The Angels Initiative provides unique resources, training opportunities, and support for physicians and nurses that are provided in meetings and workshop or digital on the multilingual webpage www.angels-initiative.com
