Empowering IBD CNS to Lead Effectively
Summary of work
Empowering Leadership is an innovative educational programme for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) clinical nurse specialists (CNS) looking to progress their leadership skills. Collaboration and co-creation with IBD nursing experts ensured that the programme was designed by IBD CNS for IBD CNS and met the identified needs of the delegates.
The focus throughout was to understand the challenges faced by this group of specialist nurses and design an experiential programme to provide practical tools and knowledge to better equip them in their roles, empowering them to create more effective sustainable teams, thereby positively impacting patient care.
The programme was designed as a blended, multi-component learning journey with Insights Discovery a red thread throughout. Delegates engaged in a range of leadership learning activities over a 9-month period including a virtual launch, 2.5 face-to-face learning days, bite-sized ‘golden nuggets’ to embed the learning, 1:1 virtual coaching and an Insights Discovery session at their workplace enabling them to demonstrate their leadership style and embed team effectiveness into their own IBD team.
Delegates own case studies have shown the impact of their leadership development in changes implemented in their teams or services which have positively impacted patient care.
