Haematological Malignancies Nurse Study Day 2022: A clinically relevant event
with support from Wave Healthcare Communications
Summary of work
The Nurse Study Day is a well-respected annual educational event for UK haematology nurses. The in-person meetings ran successfully from 2015-2019 before going virtual in 2021 due to COVID-19. In 2022, nurses were feeling the pandemic’s after-effects, so we adopted a hybrid approach offering flexibility to attend virtually or in-person.
We challenged ourselves to match virtual attendance levels despite the large attendance spike in 2021, match previous meetings’ metrics and maintain our client’s educational leadership position despite the format change. We therefore needed to ensure all attendees, virtual or in-person, received the same quality of experience.
We developed a platform offering all the interactivity of an in-person meeting, and a more appealing agenda than ever. We learnt from our Steering Committee, patient advisory groups (PAGs), and past meeting feedback that there’s a real unmet need for nurse-tailored education on advances in haemato-oncology, despite haematology nurses’ roles expanding beyond holistic patient care. Our sessions therefore focussed on providing actionable, practical advice for nurses.
Every metric met or exceeded its target; 2022 saw the biggest audience yet, beating our target by 33%. Every evaluation question received a score of at least 9.1/10 and free-text feedback demonstrated attendees’ genuine intent to change practice.
Judges’ comments
The Haematological Malignancies Nurse Study Day 2022 had previously been a long-running programme, before going virtual. Having a nurse-led approach was impressive and demonstrated a good understanding of the audience. It had strong quality of engagement and was very coherent.
